The flat owner of Sri Vihar Apartment here, from where a sex worker of Kyrgyzstan national was rescued during a raid on Wednesday, appeared before the police on Sunday and pleaded innocent about the immoral activities at his house given on rent.

Swarup Mohanty appeared before the Investigating Officer (IO) at the Chandrasekharpur Police Station and got his statement recorded.

Mohanty stated, “No agreement was signed between the sex worker and me for the rent of the flat.” “Since the Kyrgyzstan national had told me to take the flat on rent to keep her luggage, I had rented her the flat. I did not know about the immoral activities,” he added. Meanwhile, the girl was admitted at the Capital Hospital here after her health condition deteriorated. Doctors from Medicine and Surgery Departments are attending on her.

The city police have intensified their effort to be in touch with the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan in this connection. Sources said police would hand over the girl to Embassy officials.

Besides, police have formed a special team to nab Sunil Meher, the kingpin of the sex racket, who managed to give a slip during the raid on Wednesday.

During the raid, police had arrested Somesh Panda for his links with Meher in connection with the case. During interrogation, Panda had revealed that the Kyrgyzstan woman was brought to Bhubaneswar from Kolkata to be engaged in immoral activities.

The woman who had landed in India on February 25 had agreed on a ‘deal’ with Panda through a middleman in Kolkata.
