Just a day after the 68th Independence Day was celebrated with much zest across the country, three students of a school in Sundargarh were beaten severely allegedly by their headmaster for not taking out the National Flag from the pole before sunset on Friday.
Angry over the incident, parents along with villagers went to the Hemgiri police station and lodged a verbal complaint seeking action against the headmaster.
Sources said after the Independence Day was observed at the Manaharpur Project High School, school Headmaster Souaki Bag asked some students to take out the flag before the sunset. But the students forgot to implement his order on Friday. While they took out the flag from the pole on Saturday morning, Bag noticed it and called three Class VIII students, Jatindra Makar, Praksh Bhaisaj and Bimal Rout and asked them to explain why they didn’t take out the national flag yesterday.
The headmaster rebuked and beat the three students severely with a stick, according to the parents and villagers.“The parents and some villagers had come to inform me about the incident. I have asked them to give a complaint against the headmaster in writing but we are yet to receive their complaint. Still we are investigating the matter,” said IIC GR Mohapatra.
