In a tragic incident, five members of a family were killed as a goods truck rammed into their house at the Cherupali Chhak under the Salebhata police outpost in Subarnapur district late on Thursday night.
The deceased were identified as Nabin Kumar Bag, his wife Binodini, sister Brundabati, son Susant and daughter Jayanti. According to reports, the truck was on its way from Bargarh to Balangir on NH-26 when the incident occurred. The driver lost control of the vehicle, resulting in the accident. Nabin and his family members were asleep then. Nabin was a Ward Member and had a hotel at Dunguripali. On Friday morning, irate locals staged a road blockade keeping the dead bodies on the road. Though police and local officials went to the spot and assured the agitators of due compensation for the victims’ family yet the agitators were unmoved. Police said efforts are on to nab the driver and the helper of the truck, who fled from the area after the incident.
