Five injured as workers clash at IFFCO unit

Transportation of fertilisers at the IFFCO Paradip unit was disrupted for a while on Saturday last due to a clash between two groups of workers, during which five workers sustained injuries.
The finished fertiliser bags are loaded in trains at Bauriapalanda village near Paradip. About 1,200 labours are involved in this work, of which 576 labourers were under the Sankhanada Behera’s Bhumiputra Multi Purpose Cooperative Society (BMPCS) while the rest were members of the Ersama Paradip Industrial Workers’ Union (EPIWU) headed by Bapi Sarkhel.
On Saturday, some labourers from the BMPCS joined EPIWU, which created rift and violence between the two groups causing disruption in the loading works.
After an FIR lodged by the injured persons at the Paradip police station, the police rushed to the spot and took control over the situation.
