The Holi revelry was followed by tragedy in the city on Monday when five youths went missing at separate places while bathing in the Mahanadi. The fire brigade personnel who had retrieved only one body on Monday, those of the remaining persons were fished out on Tuesday, taking the toll to five.
Police said the bodies of Satish Satpathy (16) and Bitu Mohanty (16) were retrieved from the Chahata Ghat. Both the students from the Kisan Nagar and Bidanasi areas, respectively, had appeared at the matriculation examinations last week.
Sources further said the bodies of Ashok Gupta (17) and lagnajeet Behera (19) were fished out from the river at the Gadagadia Ghat, where they had gone missing along with another while bathing after playing Holi. The body of Gupta, a cousin of Ashok, was retrieved from the waters on Monday evening.
