Five cops suspended by Ganjam SP

Notorious criminal Babu Nayak, who is known as the ‘Charles Sobhraj’ of Ganjam, has again become a headache for the district police.

Babu, who was arrested on October 19, was being treated at the MKCG Medical College Hospital here amid tight security.

Babu was injured after a bomb he was carrying exploded while he was going somewhere on his motorbike.

However, the history-sheeter managed to give the cops a slip and escaped from the hospital on Sunday.

Ganjam Superintendent of Police (SP) Brijesh Rai has placed five constables under suspension for negligence in duty in connection with Babu’s escape.

The Bhanjanagar police had nabbed him after an encounter on August 3 and seized weapons, bullets and one kilogram of gold from his possession. He was lodged in the Bhanjam jail but on September 12 , he managed to escape from there.

The Ganjam and Brahmapur police have launched a manhunt to nab him.
