The Fitment Committee, which was set up by the State Government to prepare a report on the salary for the State Government employees as per the 7th Pay Commission recommendations, is likely to submit its report soon.
The State Government is under pressure from its employees to implement the report without further delay and it would not want to displease them.
The Secretariat Seva Sangh has demanded immediate implementation of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations. “We are in complete darkness about implementation of the hiked pay. Many other associations are in touch with us, and we will hold joint protests if the 7th Pay Commission is not put to effect soon,” said Sangh vice-president Sundarmurty Beuria.
Besides, the State Government employees, IAS, IPS and other senior officers are dissatisfied as their counterparts are getting higher salaries in other States. Some of those coming back from deputation to the State are getting lesser salary now than what they were getting in other States.
Sources said the committee has recommended raising the basic pay of each employee by nearly 15 per cent. If the State Government follows the Central Government pattern for implementing pension, the overall salary would increase by 23 per cent. The 7th Pay Commission report is most likely to be implemented by State Government by Durga Puja time.
Paying the hiked salaries to employees would cost more than Rs 5,500 crores to the State exchequer.
