A fisherman drowned after his boat capsized off the Kalikaprasad Ghat of Mahanadi at Banki in Cuttack district on Sunday morning.
Suresh Behera of Muraripur under the Banki police station had gone for fishing in the wee hours wearing a shawl. later, some villagers came to the ghat for a bath and noticed a shawl floating on the water and began a search operation. After an hour-long search, they found Behera’s body.
The cause of the death of the fisherman would be known after the postmortem of the body, police said.
At present, the average depth of the river at the Kalikaprasad Ghat is around 15-20 feet, locals informed.
