The Kendraparda Town police on Sunday night arrested a two youths for their alleged involvement in a firing incident near Jaipura mosque on May1 under Kendrapada Township area.
The duo was identified as Sipun Mohanty (23) alias Sipu, a resident of Samajari under Marshaghai police station, and Balaram Samantaray (21) alias Balia, a resident of Gamha under Mahakalapada police station.
According to Town police station IIC Sanjeev Kumar Mohanty, on May 1, two motorbike borne miscreants came to the house of one Sk Safat Ali, a teacher of a Government run primary school of Jaipura village and asked Safat to show the house of one Salim. But Safat did not oblige. later, when Safat was sitting in front of a local mosque with his friends, the miscreants came near him and opened fire at him. But Safat escaped as the gun did not fire due to some technical snag. Again, Munna, the son of gangster Sk Hyder, gave a telephone call to Safat, which was received by Safat’s daughter. Munna demanded an extortion amount of Rs 5 lakh from Safat.
The arrested are the associates of Munna. They were later produced before the SDJM Court.
