Unidentified miscreants on Sunday night opened fire on the house of the Balarampur Gram Panchayat Sarpanch, six km away from here, and severely beat her kin.
Reports said that Sarpanch Kanchanbala Moharana on Sunday night was in her residence when a few unidentified miscreants opened fire to her house and brandishing a revolver asked her to reveal her son Janaki Moharana’s whereabouts. As Moharana expressed her inability, the enraged miscreants attacked Sarpanch’s kin Babul who was defending her and then fled the spot.
The villagers rescued the injured and sent her to the district headquarters hospital for treatment and informed police. IIC Jagatsinghpur police station Rajanikanta Mishra informed that a manhunt has been launched to trace the miscreants. It could be fallout of an old rivalry, he added
