A man-made fire has engulfed the Similipal forest in Mayurbhanj since couple of days endangering life of wild animals and destroying various precious flora and fauna.
Forest Department personnel have intensified efforts to douse the flames. Many forests under the Karanjia division are also in the grip of the blaze. Moreover, the fire has also engulfed forests in Thakurmunda, Kendumundi, Naona, Gudagudia, Bareipani, Dudhiani, Satkosia and other parts.
Reports suggested that the practice of collecting ‘mahua’ flower by tribal people is one of the major reasons behind the outbreak of the forest fires.
Many alleged that hunters too are responsible as they set fire at places for wildlife poaching.
