Fire in MKCG ICU; patients safe

Published on:

Frequent occurrences of fires due to short circuit in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Medicine Department of the MKCG Medical College Hospital left patients scared for the last two days on Thursday and Friday.

According to information, fire first emanated from the main switch due to short circuit at 9 pm on Thursday and the same recurred at 3 am on Friday, when a fire vehicle came and doused the fire. As the AC machine stopped functioning, four patients, who were in the ICU, were shifted to other ICUs.

A chaotic situation prevailed till Friday afternoon as patients and their attendants in the nearby indoor wards remained outside in fear till Friday noon.

When asked, MKCG Superintendent Khetrabasi Subudhi said patients were shifted as soon as the fire spread due to short circuit in the DP box and the snag has been repaired.
