Fire in K'pada DHH triggers panic

Published on:

A fire broke out in the paediatric ward of the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here on Saturday, triggering panic among the patients and their attendants. Fortunately, no causalities were reported.

Although the reason of the fire was yet to be ascertained, it was suspected that an electric short circuit might have led to the mishap. Smoke filled the entire unit and the attendants immediately rushed out of the unit with the children.

Being informed, fire brigade personnel rushed to the hospital and managed to bring the blaze under control.

The Fire Services personnel said they had earlier carried out an inspection of the safety measures in the hospital premises and pointed out the shortcomings, including absence of a fire extinguisher, in the paediatric ward, but the hospital authorities did not instal it.
