A major fire engulfed an electronics shop at Koida Square in Sundargarh district late on Saturday night. All the electronics and household appliances at the shop were gutted.
An employee of the shop spotted smoke bellowing out of the shop and immediately informed the Fire Services Department. On receiving information, a fire brigade team rushed to the spot to douse the flame.
Though exact cause behind the mishap is yet to be ascertained, short circuit is suspected to be the reason behind it.
Sources said that goods worth Rs 30 lakh and Rs 4 lakh cash were reduced to ashes in the incident.
The blaze was so massive that it took the firefighters hours to douse the flames.
“Four fire tenders were pressed into action and it took almost five hours to put out the blaze,” said Koida Fire Station Officer Deepak Kumar Jena.
