Swift action of fire officials on Friday night averted a fire mishap at a temporary shelter home for Habisyalis (widows performing Kartik Brata at the Shree Jagannath Temple) provided free boarding here under the State Government’s Kartik Habisyali Brata programme.
The fire broke out at the shelter at the Bagala Dharmashala due to an electric short circuit in the ceiling fan near the entry point at around 11 pm.
Two fire services personnel came to the rescue of the elderly women and doused the blaze with extinguishers.
Ironically, earlier in the day, fire services officials had inspected fire safety measures at various establishments in the pilgrim city, including the Bagala Dharmashala.
It may be recalled that a similar fire incident had also taken place at this shelter home on October 16.
