A major fire broke out at a farmhouse near a petrol pump at Phulnakhara under the Sadar police station of Cuttack district on Thursday, triggering panic in the area.
Locals said that they initially tried to douse the flames by sprinkling sand and water. However, it was of little help.
The Fire Brigade was informed following which two fire tenders rushed to the spot from Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. Though the exact reason behind the mishap is still unclear, it is suspected that the fire initially was reported at the bushy area at the farm house. Later, the situation was brought to control by the fire fighters in an hour.
