A major fire broke out in an Axis Bank branch located on the second floor of the Mallick Commercial Complex, which houses many banks, near the Sriya Swati Cine Complex under the Kharavel Nagar police station here on Friday morning.
The fire was detected after a thick cloud of smoke emerged from the bank in the morning.
All the documents, computers and other accessories of the bank’s branch, which functions as a cheque clearance unit, were gutted completely. The fire broke out at around 6:30 am.
Being informed, three fire tenders rushed to the spot. The blaze was so severe that it took around an hour to bring it under control. It was stated that despite being a commercial complex, no firefighting system was installed in the building.
Secretariat Fire Station in-charge Rohit Kumar said, “A number of banks are functioning in the building, but no firefighting system is installed. All equipments, including computers, and papers of the Axis Bank were gutted completely in the fire. Investigation is on and the details of the loss of property can only be ascertained after the completion of the probe.”
The fire was caused due to a suspected short circuit of electricity on the first floor of the Axis Bank.
