An FIR was lodged against Begunia BJD MlA Prashant Nanda at the Capital police station in connection with the death of one Birupakhya Ransingh from Nanda’s constituency under suspicious circumstance at his official residence in the city.
Complainant Bhabani Shankar Parija of Barishan village under Niali police station limits in Cuttack district requested the police to take action against the MlA for his alleged involvement in the death of Ransingh and attempt to wipe out evidences by taking the body stealthily to its native village and conducting the funeral in a hurry.
Deceased Ransingh of Balibereni village under Begunia police station limits in Khurda district was found dead on June 25 last inside the MlA’s quarter. He has been to Nanda’s residence along with three others, Sisir Mangaraj, Sadasiv Sundray and Purna Chandra Balbantrai. Ransingh was a PDS dealer and contractor but due to some rivalry, Mangaraj and Sundray had cancelled his dealership by lobbying. However, on the appointed day, the four had called on the MlA to settle the dispute amicably.
Parija alleged that the body was cremated without informing the police and conducting autopsy, which was illegal. “How a healthy man died without sufficient cause at night at Nanda’s official residence and why the MlA did not inform the matter to the police and rather facilitated in the shifting of the body to its native village in a hush-hush mannerIJ” questioned Parija. He demanded an impartial probe into the incident and stern action against the culprits.
