The Nilgiri police have initiated action against a retired headmaster of a school run by the SC and ST Development Department on the basis of an FIR against him by the District Education Officer (DEO).
An inquiry against the accused suggested that he had embezzled the scholarship amount of the hostel boarders.
The accused, Suresh Chandra Das, in- charge headmaster of Uday Narayan Vidyapeetha under Dhobolsla GP of Nilgiri block committed misappropriations of Government allotment meant for the students by showing inflated strength.
It was alleged by the School Management Committee (SMC) that Das was drawing Rs 7,200 per month per student for 30 students against actual strength 22. More so, he was not giving the full scholarship amount to the students.
The SMC had demanded a probe against Das’s misappropriation of money before Sub Collector Harish Chandra Jena.
After preliminary inquiry by Jena, he had asked the DEO and the District Welfare Officer (DWO) to conduct a thorough inquiry with the attendance register and bank pass books etc. The inquiry revealed the irregularities by Das, who has by now retired from job.
