District Project Coordinator (DPC) of Sarba Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) Kanhu Charan Dhir recommended police action against former headmaster of Korua UGUP School Niranjan Mekap for bungling Government funds.
According to the Kendrapada Police Station IIC Sanjeev Mohanty, one Sudhiranjan Rout, Technical Consultant of RTE-SSA lodged an FIR against Niranjan Mekap for misappropriation of money.
In the FIR, Rout alleged that a sum of Rs5.45 lakh was released to the Korua UGUP school management committee account for construction of two ACR building during the tenure of Mekap as the headmaster of the school. The entire fund was later withdrawn by Mekap in 2012, leaving the buildings incomplete.
Despite repeated instruction to return Rs2.88,678, Mekap turned deaf ear. In the district level monitoring committee, the matter was taken up and it was decided to lodge an FIR against Mekap.
It may be noted here that the DPC-SSA earlier in March had lodged FIR against six headmasters in different police stations of Kendrapada district for embezzling funds meant for construction of toilets under Infrastructure Development Projects. But the police except registering a case did nothing.
