The long battle from demonstration to hunger strike of AIYF State president Sadananda Sahoo and his supporters came to a logical end and finally a food inspector was posted in Rourkela Municipal Corporation on Thursday, informed Sahoo in a Press briefing here on Friday.
Sahoo said since 2009 the post was lying vacant. Due to non-appearance of a Food Inspector, the mushrooming of unregistered food stalls in the nook and corner of the steel city here has been a cause of concern for denizens here. While thousands of stalls selling lassi, sugarcane juice, gupchup, chowmein, bada and samosa have come up on the sides of main roads and lanes, the Rourkela Municipal Corporation has reportedly no knowledge about the identity of the stall owners. Even no one is there to inspect the purity of the foods being served in thousands of stalls in Rourkela.
The Corporation authorities are yet to take steps for the registration of these stalls. Many a times taking adulterated food from different stalls and hotels, many people were affected with food poisons on several occasions here. Even taking advantage of absence of a Food Inspector, many renowned hoteliers are also allegedly supplying adulterated food to the consumers.
That is why demanding posting of a food inspector he had sat in hunger strike and staged demonstration in November 2014 and February 2015. Despite assurance in both the occasions no steps were taken. Having no other way he filed a PIl in Odisha High Court and admitting his petition in the court served notice on September 14 to Government to submit its reply soon. So before replying to court, the Government appointed a Food Inspector here finally.
