Finally, MCI team visits Baleswar

Published on:

A three-member Medical Council of India (MCI) team visited Baleswar on Monday amid uncertainty over the admission in the newly established   Government medical college from the 2018 -19 academic session.

Due to the inordinate delay in the final inspection by the MCI before the issue of lOP (letter of permission), a strong resentment was brewing in the district and now, all eyes are set on the report of the team.

The team members went around the DHH as well as the establishment built at Remuna for holding classes for students. However, neither the team members nor the medical college authorities said anything about the outcome of the visit while the team is still in the district. Additional Secretary Health Surajit Das visited the DHH campus on Friday to take stock of the infrastructure ahead of the scheduled visit of the MCI representatives.

Because of the delay in inspection of the facility of the Baleswar MCH by the MCI team, several organisations, including civil society bodies, had threatened to hold agitation. Political blame game as well as race to take credit had also begun among the parties.
