Finally, an executive committee of the Indian Red Cross Society, Odisha State Branch (IRCS-OSB) was formed for three years, after a gap of 11 long years, on the occasion of World Red Cross Day on Thursday.

IRCS- OSB president Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal nominated Smruti Mohapatra as vice-president and Jugal Kishore Mohaptra, Gajendra Sahoo, Sabyasachi Mishra, Mahammad Abdul Bari, Debashish Mishra, Dr Sarap Kumar Sahoo, Dillip Tirkey, Dr Sujajat Kar and Surya Prakash Mishra as members. Life members of the Red Cross Society have hoped that the executive committee would work to resolve various issues pending since long.

“The annual general meeting of the IRCS-OSB has not met for the last 10 years. Its expenditures for 12 years have not been approved by the executive committee. The name and logo of Red Cross Society are no longer mentioned at the Red Cross blood banks. The meeting of life members has also been stopped for the last three years. All these issues needs to be resolved soon,” said Dillip Dashsharma, convenor, Red Cross State Branch Protection Committee, Odisha.

Stating that former executive committee members Asha Hans (VP), Sudhanshu Bhushan Mishra, Dr Achyuta Samant, Soumyaranjan Patnaik, Jayant Das, PT Joseph, Prof SC Das, Prafulla Kar, Bijay Sahu and Aparajita Mohanty, nominated in August 1, 2009, were equally talented as the new members, Dashsharma said Red Cross functionaries did not follow their guidance. Even, the committee had met once only during the last 10 years against the norm of three meetings a year.

He hoped that the new committee would streamline the Red Cross Society in coming days.
