Fill up vacant doc posts, double ICUs: Narasingha

Published on:
leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra on Saturday demanded that the Government fill up all vacant doctor posts and provide all required equipments to check the increasing deaths at the Shishu Bhawan in Cuttack.Addressing a Press conference at his Assembly chamber, Mishra said a Congress team led by him visited the Shishu Bhawan on Friday and inquired about the deaths. “It is learnt that children are dying due to three main reasons, underweight births, lack of doctors and lack of congenital heart operation and other systems. While underweight births happen due to malnutrition, the Government has been careless in appointment of doctors and providing equipments,” Mishra said, adding that 13 of 19 doctor posts are lying vacant now.
Stating that the Shishu Bhawan is rated as the largest children hospital in the region, Mishra said the Government has failed completely to provide proper healthcare to infants. Records show that on an average five children are dying in the hospital every day.“We demand that the Government fill up vacant doctor posts on war footing, double the ICU and ventilator facilities and set up a congenital heart operation system for which many children are dying,” Mishra said. He also demanded actions against all officials who are responsible for the current deaths occurring at the hospital.
