Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik placed a demand for filling up of all eight vacant Judge posts in the Orissa High Court at the joint conference of Chief Ministers and Chief Justices of High Courts held at the Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Sunday.
While Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the conference, Supreme Court Chief Justice TS Thakur presided over it.
Patnaik too urged the Centre to provide assistances for development of infrastructure, construction of quarters and other facilities in court premises. The Centre has not provided any assistance to Odisha in this respect since 2014, he said.
The Chief Minister too told the conference about the steps taken by the State government for the development of judiciary in Odisha.
“Odisha recognises the importance of timely delivery of justice to common citizens. 30 courts of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) have been established for trial of offences against women and 26 JMFC courts have been set up in remote districts,” he said.
He stated that his Government has established Gramya Nyayalayas in remote areas to give justice to people at door steps and lessen burdens on various courts.
Notably, Chief Minister is currently on a five-day New Delhi visit.
