The State Government on Wednesday said it would roll out fibre optics down to the level of gram panchayats which would work as an Information Super Highway to connect the various sectors such as education, agriculture and health service.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held between Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Technology Advisor for State Government Dr Sam Pitroda at the State Secretariat here on Wednesday.
The system would help improve the service delivery mechanism and bring efficiency to poverty alleviation programmes too, informed a CMO release. The CM asked all departments to spend at least two percent of their plan budget for electronic enabled service delivery to the citizens as enacted under Right to Public Service Delivery Act. Dr Pitroda said the State Government would first assess the present status of the connectivity and then would make plans for the future. He expressed confidence there would be a significance change in the technology front of the State. He said IT would be used for improving education, agriculture, health, poverty alleviation and other sectors by digitally connecting those sectors.
Among others, Electronics and IT Minister Pranab Prakas Das and Chief Secretary AP Padhi were present.
