A serious allegation of threat to life against 84-year-old mutt chief Arun Kumar Ganguly has come to the fore, spreading shockwaves among religious fraternity in and around the Temple city of Bhubaneswar.

An FIR has been lodged at the Lingaraj police station on January 29 and the police have started an investigation into the matter. It is learnt from confirmed sources that, the Shyama Sankar Mutt Board has been newly constituted by dismantling an old board at the behest of the supreme authority of Mahamilan Mutt, Kolkata. This is pertinent to mention here that, there are 72 monasteries running under the control and supervision of Maha Milan Mutt, which is the apex body for constituting and re-constituting the management of the mutts spread across India. This is also to be noted here that the mutt was founded in the year 1962 by his Holiness Thakur Seetaram Das Omkarnath, after he had undergone penance at Puri for a full seven years.

Ganguly has been devoted to the mutt for over half a century and is recognised by one and all as a faithfull devotee of Guru Omkarnath.
