Thousands of people from 20 villages opposed and stopped the work of the Deepak Fertilizers company in the TATA SEZ near Kallipalli of Chhatrapur block of Ganjam district for its allegedly deadly byproducts and serious environment hazards.
The villagers have been protesting against the company since June 10. They allege that the company has got environment clearance based on false report submitted by the Ganjam district administration.
In fact, the company took the shelter of court when locals opposed the work during several rounds of tripartite discussions.
The agitation is spearheaded by the Bhartiya Bikash Parishad under the leadership of its president Surendra Kumar Panigrahy.
