Demanding job regularisation and seeking appointment against vacancies in Government jobs, ferry drivers and helpers launched an indefinite dharana before the State Assembly on Monday. At least 519 part time employees of 18 districts who have been working under Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) alleged that the Government was apathetic to them.
“Though we have been working under extreme hardship helping people in distress and are being engaged in relief and rescue work during the time of disaster but the Government is deliberately ignoring our demand,” said secretary of their union Nrusingh Biswal.
He added, “Even though we are working for whole year we are getting the meagre salary of Rs 8,880 and 8,080 respectively for drivers and helpers. And, the salary is given for six month in a year only.” He demanded that their job be regularised.
