A female elephant detached from her herd has been on a rampage in the Balanda area under the Brahmani Tarang police station since last few days.
Source said the elephant hides in the nearby Rutubadi reserve forest in daytime and comes out in night. To eat rainy season jackfruits, she enters into the gardens of villagers and damages vegetable crops.
On Saturday, the elephant damaged houses of two villagers. She had also damaged the compound wall of the Pitamahal dam and destroyed many trees of a nursery at Jharadaben on Friday.
According to Forest Ranger PK Ghadei, a month back the female elephant was detached from a herd of ten jumbos.
As the other elephants have already moved far away, she has been staying in the Rutubadi jungle and emerging in evenings. To drive her away, a 15-member squad has been formed.
