Decrying the increase in various course fees in the Ravenshaw University, the Ravenshaw Bikash Abhiyan on Friday announced to hold a citizen’s convention and a dharna in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s office soon.
The university authorities have increased fees for existing courses from Rs 5,000 to 17,000 and created new courses with annual fees ranging from Rs 30,000 to 50,000. Besides, the authorities have also increased number of seats of regular courses and are collecting fees between Rs 30,000 and 40,000 annually, alleged Abhiyan president Chittaranjan Mohanty at a Press conference.
Stating that the Abhiyan had requested the university authorities to inform to it if the Government doesn’t provide funds so that it would create public opinion, Mohanty said the authorities have monopolistically increased fees and put burden on parents only.
“The authorities should make the university’s receipts and payments public and refrain from increasing fees,” demanded Mohanty. He too demanded that the financial deficit of the university be met by the Government.
He further alleged that even as the Government built a new campus and a new hostel for the university on the direction of the High Court, yet lecturers have not been appointed due to a conspiracy.
Among others, secretary Siddhartha Rath, Kshirod Mohapatra, journalist Satya Ray, Prashant Das, Minakshi Panda, Khageswar Sethi, Pradeep Patnaik, Prashant Panda, Shibashis Praharaj, Bobby Balabandray, Enamul Haq and Pabhel Priyadarshan were present.
