A feast with friends proved fatal for three youths in Baleswar district when three persons drowned in front of two others in the Budhabalang river on Monday.

While the body of one Ankit Pati from Kadamsahi under Nilagiri NAC was recovered on Monday evening, those of his friends Piyush Naik and Mrutunjoy Mishra were fished out on Tuesday morning.

The trio along with two other college batch mates, Ranjan Sala and Jyotrimaya from Nilagiri had gone to the Triveni Ghat for the feast.  After having their food, they went to the river to take bath. Ankit, Piyush and Mrutunjoy slipped into deep water and were swept away by strong current.

After failed attempts to trace the three missing friends, Ranjan and Jyotrimaya managed to swim ashore and raised an alarm.

Fire Service personnel with the help of locals launched a rescue operation and fished out the body of Ankit. The bodies of Piyush and Mrutunjoy were traced and recovered on Tuesday morning.
