The Cuttack District and Sessions Court here on Monday convicted a father-son duo for murder charges and sentenced them to undergo life imprisonment.
The court of Judge Gyanaranjan Purohit held one Dillip Mohanty (56) and his son Debashis Mohanty (26) guilty of brutally murdering Marya Ranjan Parida late in the evening of August 18, 2012 near Vigilance Colony here under Madhupatna police station. The victim and the convicts were of the same locality and had previous enmity.
Booking the father-son duo under Sections 302 and 34 of IPC, the police had arrested them on the night of the incident itself and recovered the weapon of offence. Examining as many 16 prosecution witnesses, the Judge convicted and sentenced the accused.
According to police, Dilip and Marya picked up a quarrel in the marketplace around 9.30 pm on the day of the incident over petty previous rivalry. Soon Dilip’s son Debashis arrived at the spot and in a fit of rage snatched a pair of scissors from a nearby tailor shop and stabbed Marya repeatedly while his father was holding the victim tightly from behind.
A profusely bleeding Marya was immediately rushed to hospital bypolice where doctors declared him brought dead. Basing on the complaint of Marya’s father Chintamani Parida, the police had registered a murder case.
