Fast industrialisation not benefiting locals: Ex-Min

Monthly tabloid Shram Samachar organised a seminar on ‘Industrialisation and industrial relation in Angul district’ on the International labour Day.

Addressing the seminar as the chief guest, former Union Minister Brajakishore Tripathy said the people of the State are not getting any benefits from the on-going mindless industrialisation.

On the other hand, they have been rendered victims of its ill effects.

“The State Government has sold out natural resources to private industrial houses at throwaway prices, whereas agriculture has been totally paralised due to a wrong policy. Youth are yet to get employment in spite of rapid industrialisation in the State. Against this backdrop, the local people should do the needful to safeguard their interest,” Tripathy opined.

Dalit leader Jayant Bhoi, addressing the seminar, strongly criticised the Government for failing to implement the labour and industrial policies in the State.

Chief Speaker senior journalist Rabi Rath said the State Government has been showing undue favour to the industrialists and is not adopting a fair policy for the benefit of the displaced families.

Thousands of youth are going for work from the Chief Minister’s constituency to outside States, while the Chief Minister has been boasting of rise in per capita income of the people, he said

Among others, noted social activist Krishna Mohanty and Odisha Yuba Parishad president Devi Prusty spoke. The seminar was presided over by the Shram Samachar Editor Aren Pani, while Talcher Working Journalists’ Association general secretary Dhira Mohan Ray coordinated.

Freedom fighter Dibakar Pradhan, educationist Sushree Sovagini Devi, Bipin Bihari Pradhan, litterateur Prof Minaketan Purohit and Amlesh Kumar were conferred with Shram Prativa Samman, 2013. Harekrushna Samal gave vote of thanks.
