In a unique show, farmers of Jamutbahal in Gaisillet block in Balangir district observed the Akshay Tritiya together on Friday and resolved to protect, preserve and promote traditional paddy seeds which are becoming extinct gradually.
President of Desi Bihan Suraksha Samiti Santanu Singh first worshipped Mother Earth and started Akhi Muthi (sowing the first seed).later, as many as 30 pairs of bullocks were brought there from the villages of Jamutbahal, Jadamunda, Gondpali, Sandhibahal and Dhauraakhaman and the villagers ploughed the land.The farmers in the presence of Siba Prasad Sahu of the Ahinsha Club and Mukhi Meher of the lok Bikash Sangathan vowed to preserve and protect traditional paddy seeds and popularise them through cultivation in their area.
