The State Government has decided to cover the farmers under the crop insurance in Rabi season also. Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi said this after chairing a meeting related to crop insurance at the State Secretariat here on Friday.
It may be mentioned here that the Chief Secretary Padhi had earlier directed the officials to estimate the crop harvesting properly. This year, the crop cutting is being tested through new technology. The longitude and latitude are identified by help of smart phones and satellite. The status of crop harvesting is being monitored in each panchayat. The actual picture of crops is being uploaded on crop insurance website.
As many as 5,484 crop cutting images from different panchayats have been uploaded on the website.
The State has topped the list in the country in field of uploading the pictures of crops on the website. The Government decided to bring paddy, groundnut, mustard, moong, black gram and potato under insurance cover.
For insurance coverage, the State has been divided into six clusters. The districts under the clusters have been distributed among four insurance companies for crop insurance registration. The farmers can register under the crop insurance for Rabi crops by December 31, informed Chief.
