Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Principal Secretary Pradipta Kumar Mahapatra said farmers and officials associated with paddy procurement would be trained about Government norms so that peasants would get right prices for their produce.
“Training of farmers has become a necessity as very often they fail to get proper remuneration for their produce, especially paddy, due to lack of knowledge on quality and standard,” said Mohapatra.
The Secretary said this on the occasion of a five-day training programme held across the State from September 14. Many farmers and officials were educated about paddy procurement and payment process.
He called upon officials to ensure that farmers do not face any problem at Mandies.
The programme was jointly planned by the FS and CW Department, Union Food Ministry and Food Corporation of India. Representatives of Primary Cooperative Societies, farmers, mill owners and field staff of Cooperation Department joined.
The department has already trained 115 Master Trainers who in turn will train others along with 145 staff of the Supplies Department, sources said.
