The Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) on Monday formed a human chain and held a meeting in front of the District Collector’s office here demanding a cold storage at Jagatsinghpur and Mandis for mung crop in each block.
The NKS activists took out a procession from College Square that culminated at the Collector’s office parade ground and held a meeting. They blamed district administration for not restoring the defunct cold storage at Jagatsinghpur or establishing a new one besides making no efforts for starting of cold storages in block level.
Due to nonexistence of cold storages, farmers are resorting to distress sale of vegetables and other perishable products, said Rashmi Ranjan Swain, who led the agitation.
Heavy police deployment was made at the meeting place with senior police officials accompanied by a magistrate being present at the spot.
