local members of the BJP Krushak Morcha on Tuesday gheraoed the Sub-Collector’s office here and presented to him a nine-point charter of demands addressed to Governor Dr SC Jamir.
Hundreds of farmers led by party’s Cuttack district general secretary Ramnarayan Mohanty came in a rally shouting slogans against the ‘negligence’ of the BJD Government towards the farmers’ community.
The demands include provision of cold storages, warehouses for storing crops, correct weight and measures at paddy procurement points, stopping of tax collection from RMCs, immediate release of crops insurance for the year 2015-16 and increase in minimum support price of paddy and bonus.
During agitation, local Central Cooperative Bank released insurance money to some farmers’ accounts.
