The farmers, mainly from 21 gram panchayats and those in the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation area are continuing their agitation before the office of the Collector demanding crop insurance.
Bibhu Prasad Patnaik of the Sambalpur Jilla Krushak Surakshya Sangathan said, “We will continue the stir till our demands are fulfilled.”
Notably, the rural areas included in the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation have suffered crop loss up to 70 per cent. At the same time, there were huge crop losses in others rural parts of the district.
But the farmers have not got compensation in lieu of the crop loss, alleged Murari Purohit, another leader of the Krushak Sangathan.
“Against 70 per cent crop loss, the farmers have got only compensation over mere 12 per cent loss,” he lamented.
The insurance company has blatantly cheated the farmers. It has not also taken crop cutting report to consideration while making insurance payments simple to cheat the innocent farmers and also to make huge profit for the company.
The leaders blamed that the Government of India for showing soft corner to Tata AIG with whom it has made the agreement.
They also criticized the Government of Odisha for its failure to address the grievances of the farmers.
