The Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS), an outfit fighting for farmers’ rights in Odisha, has once again threatened to launch a ‘Jail Bharo’ agitation from next month if its demands are not met.
The outfit has decided to stage another State-level farmers’ convention on March 29 and go for a ‘Jail Bharo’ stir if the State Government does not fulfil the demands.
The Government is not keen to address farmers’ issues, alleged Ananta Kishore Bhuyan of NKS during its preparatory meeting held at Bari in Jajpur district on Friday.
Among others, NKS convenor Akshaya Kumar and associate convenor Seshadev Nanda and Jajpur district convenor Nimain Ray discussed various farmers’ issues.
Notably, the Navnirman Krushak Sangathan had staged a protest march on February 17 and 18 demanding pension, compensation, irrigation facility, agricultural infrastructure development and easy loan facilitation to farmers.
Besides, the farmers have also been demanding payment of compensation to relatives of the farmers who have committed suicide, implementation of pension scheme for farmers, better procurement facilities, higher minimum support price, proper socialrecognition to the farming community and droughtcompensation.
