In protest against the purported anti farmer bills and ordinances former chief minister and general secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Harish Rawat was on Maun Vrat ( silent fast) on Friday. After breaking his fast the veteran Congress leader unleashed an acid laced attack on the Narendra Modi government for its anti farmer polices.
Talking to the media persons, the former Uttarakhand CM said that the union government is trying to get the three such bills passed in the parliament which would increase the problems of farmers. He said that one stroke of the BJP government has put the future of farmers into the dark while giving benefits to brokers and traders who are supporters of the BJP.
He said that the Congress party firmly believes that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) is the fundamental right of farmers and if the benefit of the MSP is demolished then the farmers would be hit hard. Rawat alleged that the government is promoting the middlemen while destroying the Mandis.
He said that by allowing unlimited procurement of grains by the private players the concept of Public Distribution System (PDS) which helps in feeding the poor would be demolished. Rawat added that in the name of contract farming the BJP is benefiting Adanis and Ambanis. He said that the contract farming concept is taken from the USA and it would ensure that the lands of farmers are controlled by industrialists. He said that the Congress party would hold a massive protest in Delhi on September 23 on the issue.
