Fani: Guv cancels ‘At Home’ on Aug 15

Governor Professor Ganeshi Lal has decided not to hold ‘At Home’ at the Raj Bhavan on the Independence Day this year in view of the devastations caused by Cyclone Fani.

A Raj Bhavan spokesperson said, "In solidarity with people affected by Cyclone Fani in the State, Honourable Governor has decided not to hold the 'At Home' celebration”.

The decision has been taken in the background of the destructions and death of at least 64 people due to the cyclone in the coastal districts on May 3.

Notably, At Home is held at the Raj Bhavan every year on the Independence Day (August 15) and the Republic Day (January 26).  Dignitaries such as Chief Minister, High Court Chief Justice and other Judges, Assembly Speaker, Ministers, MPs, MLAs ad Chairmen and Members of Central Administrative Tribunal and State Administrative

Tribunal are invited to the get-together.

Leading industrialists and other eminent personalities are also invited to the party. Besides, freedom fighters are felicitated on the occasion. The guests are entertained with high tea. A brief cultural programme is often staged on the occasion.
