What can be more barbaric than to tonsure a married woman in the present age when many procedures, including legal actions, are available. The matter finally reached police who took appropriate action

Babuli Chhatria, a resident of Paruabhadi village under Kuchinda sub-division married Bhumanti eight years back and they have a son and a daughter. Babuli works in a factory at Rengali. In his absence, his wife and his two sisters had hot exchanges of words over sharing of mustard produced from their land.   However, Bhumanti’s family members and her two married Nanandas (sisters-in-law) treated her argument as misbehaviour to all of them.  They informed matter to their relatives and seniors of their caste. In a meeting of these people, it was decided that Bhumanti would be tonsured; and further, she would pay Rs 6,000 as fine for her misbehaviour.

Babuli, who was present in meeting, requested all to increase  fine amount and changedecision of tonsuring her as it is a gross insult to a woman. But seniors didn’t agree.
