In a shocking incident, a woman committed suicide by setting herself ablaze in the Old Town area here on Friday.
While a family discord is suspected to be behind the scene, police detained the husband of the victim.
The incident occurred at the Rathagada Barik Sahi area under the lingaraj police station. Some locals spotted smokes billowing out of the home of the victim woman, Mama, at around 11.30 pm. They were astonished to see Mama’s body inside the locked room.
Police suspect that the woman poured kerosene on her body before setting her afire.
The police took the woman’s husband Tukuna into custody and was interrogating him. The couple has a baby boy aged around eight months.
