A 55-year-old person, who had been abandoned by his family members due to poverty and undergoing treatment for cancer at the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) here for about a week, died on Thursday. The lead Rourkela, a volunteer organisation, took lead role in providing support for his treatment.
While members of the organisation were making arrangements for cremation, two youths reached them and identified the man as their uncle Suresh Behera. They said they were forced to leave the ailing uncle at the Sector-2 Bus Stop due to their poor financial condition. During these seven days of treatment, nobody turned up to Suresh. After his death, the volunteers lodged a complaint in the Sector 3 police station.
“The two youths, Himansu Behera and Ajay Behera, of the Raghunathpalli area said they had left Suresh at the bus stop as they were unable to provide treatment to him,” said A Mohanty of lead Rourkela. The body of Suresh was cremated at Vedvyas on Thursday after all formalities.
