Tirtol BJD MlA Rabindranath Bhoi on Friday met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the Naveen Niwas over his false affidavit issue. After the meeting, Patnaik said he would examine the issue, while Bhoi said he would abide by the instruction of the Chief Minister pertaining to the matter.
Notably, during filing of nomination in the 2009 elections, Bhoi had mentioned in the affidavit that he had passed HSC examination in 1983 from Alaka High school, Balia under Biridi block. Similarly, he had mentioned to have passed Plus II Science from the SVM College, Jagatsinghpur in 1985. But the information was found to be false.
His falsehood came to light when a Bhubaneswar-based lawyer Niranjan Sethi sought details of the educational qualification of Bhoi from the SVM College Principal under the RTI Act on July 12 last. In the reply, the college authority revealed that Bhoi had taken admission in the SVM College on July 25, 1984 and appeared for Plus II Science examination in 1986 in which he had failed. Out of total 900 marks, he had secured only 155. Even, Bhoi had not applied to take his college leaving certificate. While the issue stirred up a controversy, Bhoi clarified that that since he was selected as a party candidate at the last moment and had little time to read the affidavit which was prepared by Jagatsinghpur MlA Bishnu Das, he committed the error. “I had just signed on the affidavit without reading the matter,” maintained Bhoi.
