A case has been lodged at Gurandi police station against a person who by impersonating as a Vigilance sleuth threatened a Revenue Inspector (RI) and extorted Rs 85,000 from him in Gajapati district.
The incident happened at the Upplada RI office. The accused identifying him as an official from the Vigilance department threatened RI Purusottam Biswal of dire consequence concerning a case against Biswal. Later, he demanded money from him to stop further proceedings in the case.
Later he took Biswal from one RI office to another and collected a total of Rs 85,000 before fleeing the spot.
However, suspecting the activities of the accused, Biswal lodged a case at Gurandi police station. IIC Rabindranath Panda said an inquiry was on.
