The Commissionerate Police on Saturday busted a fake tobacco products manufacturing unit at the Haladipadia slum under the laxmisagar police station and detained four persons in this connection.
Raw materials required for tobacco preparation worth Rs 1.5 crore and machineries were also seized.
Acting on a tipoff, the Special Squad of the Commissionerate Police raided the unit and stumbled upon piles of zarda, raw materials and packaging materials.
Six months back, sources said the Gopal Zarda company had informed police about their product being duplicated, due to which the company was suffering huge losses as the volume of sales was going down.
The dealers of the company had also complained that their sales were slowing down by nearly 25 per cent.
later, the general manager of the company in coordination with the police had tracked the present duplicate unit. However, some people managed to give a slip to the police.
