A  woman impersonating as a nurse duped a number of people lakhs of rupees on the pretext of offering them jobs at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar.

The accused was identified as Kabita Adhikari (27), a native of Kandhamal district. She was arrested by the Khandagiri police on Saturday on the charge of duping people of over Rs 5 lakh with job offers at the premier health institute of Bhubaneswar.

Sources said that Kabita was residing in a rented house in the Khandagiri area posing as an AIIMS staff nurse. As the house owner’s wife Shanti Sahoo was in a miserable condition following her husband Chakrapani Sahoo’s death, Kabita lured her with a job offer, for which she took Rs 50,000 from her initially.

Later, Shanti’s two relatives Krushna Chandra Sahoo and Dinabandhu Sahoo also fell in the trap of Kabita, who duped the duo of Rs 4 lakh in instalments on the pretext of providing jobs to them at the AIIMS.

After the trio did not get any appointment letters, they asked Kabita for refund of their money. Subsequently, they came to know the real motive of the woman.

With no option left, the victims approached the Khandagiri police. Based on their complaints, police arrested Kabita and forwarded her to court. Earlier, Kabita had been arrested by the Chauliaganj police in Cuttack in a fraud case.
